Volasertib

Volasertib is a cancer drug that works by inhibiting Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1), a key cell-cycle regulator, mainly used in clinical trials for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), especially in older patients unfit for intensive chemotherapy, often combined with low-dose cytarabine (LDAC) for higher remission rates. It also shows potential in solid tumors like cervical, colon, and lung cancers by causing cell death (apoptosis) and halting cell division. While promising, Volasertib is not yet FDA-approved for general use, with Phase III trials ongoing to confirm its efficacy in AML. The directory classifies it as a discontinued API with a synthetic source/manufacturing origin. Other names for this substance include Volasertibum. Its PubChem CID is 10461508.
