Icodextrin

Icodextrin is a starch-based polymer used as a peritoneal dialysis (PD) solution to remove fluid and waste from the body in patients with kidney failure. It is a stable, iso-osmolar osmotic agent that provides long-lasting ultrafiltration (fluid removal) during the long-dwell exchange in PD, minimizing the reabsorption of fluid that can occur with glucose-based solutions. Beyond dialysis, icodextrin has also been investigated for its potential to reduce intra-abdominal adhesions after surgery. Its therapeutic use is listed as adhesion-prevention agents. The directory classifies it as a commercial API with a biotechnology source/manufacturing origin. Other names for this substance include Adept and icodextrinum. Its PubChem CID is 3517. Its PubChem SID is 481108957.
