Di-tert-butyl dicarbonate

It is a colorless liquid or crystalline solid that acts as a protecting agent for amines in organic synthesis. When reacted with amines, it forms Boc-protected amines, which can later be deprotected under mild acidic conditions. This makes it essential in peptide synthesis and pharmaceutical intermediate preparation. Di-tert-butyl dicarbonate (Boc anhydride) is a widely used organic reagent with the formula (Boc)₂O.
