Cefmetazole sodium

Cefmetazole Sodium is the sodium salt form of cefmetazole, a second-generation, semi-synthetic, beta-lactam cephalosporin antibiotic with antibacterial activity. Cefmetazole binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), transpeptidases that are responsible for crosslinking of peptidoglycan. By preventing crosslinking of peptidoglycan, cell wall integrity is lost and cell wall synthesis is halted. It is grouped under the following drug class(es): Beta-lactams. Its therapeutic use is listed as anti-infectives, antibacterials and antibiotics. The directory classifies it as a commercial API with a semi-synthetic source/manufacturing origin. Other names for this substance include Cefmetazole Monosodium Salt, Cefmetazone, Zefazone and CMZ sodium. Its PubChem CID is 23666711.
