This intermediate is widely employed to synthesize sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, allowing selective reactions without affecting the free amine. N-Boc-sitagliptin is a protected form of sitagliptin, in which the amino group is masked with a tert-butoxycarbonyl (Boc) group.
