4-Benzyl albuterol, (-)

While albuterol treats asthma, COPD, and exercise-induced bronchospasm by opening airways, the 4-benzyl form helps create the final, more potent, optically active versions, with the (R)-enantiomer being the primary active bronchodilator. 4-Benzyl albuterol (or 4-Benzyl Salbutamol) is used mainly as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of the actual bronchodilator drug albuterol (salbutamol), rather than for direct medical use.
